Regulations at most (soon to be all) cemeteries within St. Michael Parish:

    • Adopted Policies - Associated with the reverence shown for our departed loved ones are policies dealing with the decoration and use of their graves. Our parish cemeteries are governed by rules and regulations established by the Diocese of Portland for all Catholic Cemeteries in the State of Maine. They are a reflection of the respect we give our deceased and in a manner that is compatible with good cemetery practices. Along with the Diocesan rules St. Mary’s emphasizes the adopted policies as outlined below:
    • Lawns: Grass areas may not be obstructed by the planting of live shrubs or flowers directly into the ground.

      St. Augustine Cemetery
    • Fencing: Borders or hedging or any kind will not be allowed around the plot or grave

    • Urns and Vases: Suitable containers for potted plants or artificial flowers may be placed at either end of permanent monuments.

    • Ornaments: The use of landscape stones, bricks, pavers, mulches, vigil lights or other ornamentation cannot be allowed.

    • Flags and Special Decorations: Flags and appropriate arrangements may be placed at either end of monuments for all national holidays, and may remain for two weeks following. The management reserves the right to remove those decorations when it deems appropriate. Removed articles are at owner’s risk.

    Fund-Raising and Stewardship:

    • Returnable Collection - The container near the Reconciliation Room at the front entrance of St. Mary's Church is used to collect returnable beverage containers. Funds collected support St. Michael School Computer Program.
    • Social Justice & Peace Commission - There is a constant need for baby items and for new or used maternity clothes to help single mothers, babies born as a result of an untimely pregnancy or young couples caught in poverty or sometimes as a result of an abusive relationship.

    Sacraments:

    • Sacrament of Baptism - The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the last Sunday Mass of the month except during Lent. Parents must attend the preparation program prior to the Baptism. We recommend calling the Pastoral Center prior to the birth of your baby to attend pre-Baptism classes
    • Sacrament of Marriage - Please call the Pastoral Center and make arrangements at least six months in advance of the wedding date. Couples must meet with the pastor and attend a preparation program prior to the wedding.
    • Sacrament of the Sick - Please call the Pastoral Center during the course of a loved one’s illness so that the person may be given this healing consolation. This Sacrament may also be administered at Church after any Mass for those who anticipate hospitalization.
    • Eucharist to the Sick - We ask family or friends to let us know when someone is in a nursing home or home bound so the sacraments may be offered to them. For St. Andrew, call Carolyn Clark at 623-9038; St. Augustine, call Julie Brawn at 622-5675; St. Mary, call Georgette Reny at 622-2828; St. Joseph call Pat Greenleaf at 582-4960.
    • New Parishioners - Welcome to our parish family. Please fill out an application at the entrance of the Church and place in the offering basket. You'll be hearing from us real soon!
    • Parking: Please reserve the parking spaces nearest the church door at St. Mary in the Pastoral Center parking lot for handicapped and senior citizens. At St. Andrew the circular drive reserved for handicap and senior parking.
    • Cry Room: Available at St. Mary Church to families upstairs in the former choir loft. Available at St. Andrew in the Reconciliation Room.
